Aurland

Viewpoints & Heritage Sites

This collection highlights the architectural and natural landmarks of the Aurland region. It features the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjorden, Europe’s narrowest fjord, and the Stegastein viewpoint extending 30 meters over the Aurlandsfjord. The list also includes significant religious sites, such as the 12th-century Undredal Stave Church—the smallest of its kind in Scandinavia—and the Gothic stone Vangen Church. Visitors can also locate the Kjosfossen waterfall along the Flåm Railway and the 19th-century Bakka Church.

Stegastein

Stegastein is a scenic overlook on Sogn og Fjordane County Road 243 in Norway.

Kjosfossen

A powerful waterfall with a 225-meter drop located along the Flåm Railway. It features an adjacent hydroelectric power station that provides energy for the train line.

Nærøyfjorden

A UNESCO World Heritage-listed branch of the Sognefjord. It is approximately 18 kilometers long and measures only 250 meters wide at its narrowest point.

Ås

A scenic viewpoint situated along the mountain road between Aurlandsvangen and Stegastein, offering views of the surrounding fjord landscape.

Undredal stavkyrkje

Built around 1147, this is the smallest stave church in Scandinavia still in use. The interior features 17th-century ceiling paintings and a medieval bell.

Vangen kyrkje

An Early Gothic stone church dating to 1202. It is the largest of the three churches in Aurland and features a distinctive white-painted exterior.

Bakka kyrkje

A white wooden church built in 1859 on the shores of the Nærøyfjord. It was designed by architect Christian Heinrich Grosch and seats approximately 200 people.
