Cheile Nerei-Beușnița National Park Essentials

Cheile Nerei-Beușnița National Park preserves the longest limestone gorge in Romania, carved by the Nera River over 22 kilometers. The landscape is characterized by rare karst phenomena, including the deep turquoise Ochiul Beiului and the subterranean-fed Lake Dracula, the country's largest karst lake. Dense forests surround unique travertine waterfalls like Bigăr and Beușnița, while the "La Tunele" section features a series of narrow pedestrian passages hand-carved into the rocky cliffs to navigate the steep terrain.

Bigăr Waterfall

Bigăr is a protected area situated in the administrative territory of Bozovici, in Caraș-Severin County in southwestern Romania.

Ochiul Bei Lake

A karst lake known for its intense turquoise color and constant water temperature between 4 and 8°C. Fed by an underground spring, the lake remains ice-free throughout the winter.

Beușnița Waterfall

A succession of travertine waterfalls on the Beu River. The most impressive section features a 15-meter drop over wide, moss-covered limestone curtains.

Lake Dracula

Romania's largest karst lake, originally an underground formation revealed after a cave ceiling collapsed. It reaches a depth of approximately 12 meters.
