Parks and gardens in Coyoacán

Coyoacán’s green spaces range from 16th-century colonial plazas to specialized ecological reserves. This collection includes the Japanese-style architecture of Parque Masayoshi Ohira, the Art Deco monument at Parque de la Bombilla, and the Augustinian monastery grounds of Culhuacán. These sites preserve regional history through volcanic rock landscapes, traditional fountains, and preserved mural art while providing recreational areas for climbing, walking, and local cultural events.

Plaza Jardín Centenario

Centrally located square featuring the iconic bronze Fuente de los Coyotes. This historic space is defined by its colonial-era layout and mature trees, serving as a social hub since the 16th century.

Parque Masayoshi Ohira

A Japanese-inspired garden featuring a red torii gate, stone bridges, and a central pond. Originally built in 1942, the park commemorates the diplomatic friendship between Mexico and Japan.

Plaza del Carmen

A colonial square situated next to the 17th-century El Carmen monastery. It features traditional cobblestone paths and a central fountain, reflecting the historic architecture of the San Ángel neighborhood.

San Jacinto Square

A lovely green plaza surrounded by sights, history and great restaurants. Worth the visit.

Parque de la Bombilla

Site of the Art Deco monument dedicated to Álvaro Obregón, built where the former president was assassinated in 1928. The park includes expansive reflecting pools and wide walkways.

Ex-Convento de Culhuacán

A 16th-century Augustinian convent complex that includes a museum with original religious murals. The surrounding park features an artificial lake and ruins of a colonial hydraulic system.

Parque Ecológico Huayamilpas

Ecological park constructed on the Pedregal volcanic terrain. It features a botanical garden, a specialized climbing wall, an open-air theater, and facilities for football and athletics.
