Iconic Peaks of Denali

This collection highlights the geological giants of the central Alaska Range within Denali National Park. Dominated by the 20,310-foot Denali, the list includes Mount Foraker and Mount Hunter, the second and third highest peaks in the range. These summits are characterized by massive vertical relief and dramatic granite monoliths, such as The Moose's Tooth and Mount Dickey, which rise thousands of feet above the Ruth Glacier. The region features some of the most challenging technical alpine climbing routes in North America.

Denali

Denali is the highest mountain peak in North America, with a summit elevation of 20,310 feet above sea level.

Mount Foraker

The second-highest peak in the Alaska Range at 17,400 feet. Located on the fork of the Kahiltna Glacier, it is the third-highest mountain in the United States.

C

Mount Hunter

A 14,573-foot peak situated eight miles south of Denali. It is the third-highest summit in the range and is known for its steep technical climbing and broad summit plateau.

Kahiltna Dome

Kahiltna Dome is a 12,411-foot mountain in the central Alaska Range, in Denali National Park, 7.3 mi west of Denali.

Mount Huntington

A pyramid-shaped granite peak reaching 12,240 feet. It is famous for its exceptionally steep faces and was first climbed in 1964 by a French team led by Lionel Terray.

The Moose's Tooth

A 10,335-foot peak on the east side of the Ruth Glacier. It features massive 5,000-foot vertical granite walls and complex ridgelines popular with technical climbers.

Mount Dickey

A 9,545-foot peak renowned for its 5,000-foot Great Gorge wall, which is one of the tallest granite faces in the world, towering directly over the Ruth Glacier.

Mount Russell

An 11,670-foot peak in the southwestern Alaska Range. It is characterized by its isolation and significant vertical relief above the Chedotlothna Glacier.

Mount Carpe

A 12,552-foot peak on the northeast ridge of Denali. It was named for Allen Carpe, a pioneering climber and scientist who died on the mountain in 1932.

Thunder Mountain

A 10,920-foot peak located north of Mount Hunter between the Kahiltna and Tokositna Glaciers.

Peters Dome

A 10,571-foot glaciated summit northwest of Denali, overlooking the Peters Glacier on the mountain's northern approach.

Mount Koven

A 12,142-foot peak on the ridge between the Muldrow and Traleika Glaciers, named for a member of the 1932 Cosmic Ray expedition.

Mount Dan Beard

A 10,260-foot peak at the head of the Ruth Glacier, named after the founder of the Boy Scouts of America.

Mount Barrille

A 7,650-foot peak overlooking the Ruth Glacier's Great Gorge, known for providing views of the surrounding high-altitude granite walls.

O

The Broken Tooth

A 9,050-foot technical rock spire in the Ruth Gorge area, part of the jagged formation that includes The Moose's Tooth.
