Østerdalen Essentials

Østerdalen follows Norway’s longest river, the Glomma, through a landscape of dense pine forests and dramatic geological formations. This collection highlights the region's cultural and natural landmarks, including the medieval stone architecture of Ringsaker kirke and the 2.4-kilometer-long Jutulhogget canyon. Visitors can explore the heritage of rural Norway through preserved 1950s interiors at Glopheim Kafe, the megalithic Tolvsteinsringen stone circle, and the Norsk Elgsenter, which focuses on the ecology of the local moose population.

Jutulhogget

One of Northern Europe’s largest canyons, stretching 2.4 kilometers with depths up to 240 meters. It was formed approximately 10,000 years ago by the catastrophic drainage of the glacial lake Nedre Glåmsjø.

Norsk Elgsenter

A wooden octagonal church built in 1795. It is known for its distinctive architectural shape and serves as a prominent landmark in the village of Tynset.

A wooden long church completed in 1861. Designed by architect Christian Heinrich Grosch, the building features a simple exterior and serves the local parish in the Alvdal municipality.
