Salzkammergut Alpine Huts & Shelters

This collection features a selection of traditional mountain shelters and alpine inns throughout the Salzkammergut region. It includes high-altitude bases like the Adamekhütte at 2,196 meters, situated near the Dachstein glacier, alongside accessible mountain restaurants on the Tauplitzalm and Zwölferhorn. These huts serve as essential waypoints for multi-day treks through the Totes Gebirge and Höllengebirge, providing regional Upper Austrian and Styrian cuisine, dormitory-style sleeping quarters, and terraces with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks.

Adamekhütte

High-alpine shelter at 2,196 meters managed by the ÖAV Section Austria. Located at the foot of the Gosau Glacier, it serves as the primary base for climbing the Hoher Dachstein.

Linzer Tauplitz-Haus

Category II alpine shelter operated by the ÖAV Section Linz. It is located on the Tauplitzalm plateau at an elevation of 1,638 meters.

Albert Appel-Haus

Large Alpine Club shelter in the central Totes Gebirge near the Styrian border. Sited at 1,638 meters, it is a key junction for the North Alpine long-distance trail.

Rinnerhütte

Shelter operated by the Ebensee Mountaineering Association. Located at 1,473 meters, it serves as a base for the Rinnerkogel ascent near the Offensee.

Schafbergblickhütte

Mountain restaurant and hut offering views of the Schafberg peak and the surrounding Salzkammergut lake district.

Almtalerhaus

Alpine Club shelter at 714 meters in the Hetzautal. It features a large garden and serves as the starting point for climbs to the Welser Hütte and the Almtaler Sonnstein.

Hochsteinalm

Mountain inn at 1,210 meters offering regional cuisine. It is accessible via hiking trails from Traunkirchen or Ebensee and features a small petting zoo.

Rossalm

High-altitude pasture and restaurant located at 1,387 meters, known for serving traditional regional dishes to hikers between Hallstatt and Gosau.

Latschenalm Krispl-Gaißau

Alpine restaurant located within the Gaißau-Hintersee hiking and ski region, specializing in local mountain fare.

Steinitzenalm

Traditional alpine hut located between Bad Mitterndorf and Pichl-Kainisch, providing regional snacks and local dairy products.

Ebenseer Hochkogelhütte

Mountain shelter at 1,558 meters on the Hochkogel. It offers regional cuisine and serves as a base for exploring the karst landscape of the central Totes Gebirge.
