Parks and fountains in Stuttgart

Stuttgart’s urban landscape is defined by the "Green U," a series of connected parks stretching from the city center toward the Neckar River. This selection features the three distinct sections of the Schlossgarten, which house the State Opera and historic monuments. The list also includes significant water features like the 19th-century cast-iron fountains on Schlossplatz and the panoramic Galatea-Brunnen, alongside the Städtisches Lapidarium, an open-air museum preserving architectural ruins from the city's past.

Mittlerer Schlossgarten

The central section of the palace gardens features a large lake and the Landespavillon. It serves as a transition zone between the formal upper gardens and the expansive lower parklands.

Unterer Schlossgarten

The northernmost and largest part of the palace gardens, characterized by centuries-old trees and wide meadows. It extends toward the Neckar and connects the city center to Rosenstein Park.

Galatea-Brunnen

A late 19th-century bronze fountain located on Eugensplatz. The site includes a viewing platform that offers panoramic views across the Stuttgart city basin.

Oberer Schlossgarten

The historic section of the gardens situated between the New Palace and the State Opera. It features the Eckensee lake and formal landscaping dating back to the early 1800s.

Schlossplatzspringbrunnen

Two monumental cast-iron fountains erected in 1863 to honor King Wilhelm I. The ornate structures feature figures representing the eight major rivers of the Württemberg region.

Städtisches Lapidarium

An open-air museum located in the former gardens of Villa Ostertag-Siegle. It contains over 200 stone sculptures and architectural fragments salvaged from historic buildings across Stuttgart.
