Sylt's Ancient Heritage

Sylt’s landscape preserves a dense concentration of prehistoric monuments dating from the Neolithic and Bronze Ages. This collection features the Harhoog and Merelmerskhoog passage graves, characteristic of the Funnelbeaker culture, alongside the Tinnumburg, an Iron Age circular rampart. Numerous tumuli, or burial mounds, like Tipkenhoog, are clustered near Keitum and Archsum, offering a physical record of the island's earliest settlements and ancient funerary traditions.
