Book your ticket to Sagrada Familia ahead and come here first thing in the morning to avoid the crowds of tourists. This stunning church is an iconic landmark of Barcelona even though it remains unfinished. Both the interior and exterior are magnificent, so take your time to enjoy your visit. On your way to Eixample, see Casa Macaya and House of Spikes, two buildings designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch. The admission to Casa Macaya is free, peek inside to see the magnificent entrance hall and the interior courtyard. The residential block House of Spikes is now open to visitors too - if you want to learn more about the importance and influence of the architect, then this is the place.
Stroll down Passeig de Gracia, a wide avenue boasting several masterpieces by well-known architects, including Gaudí. See La Pedrera, Casa Batlló and Casa Lleó Morera before you approach the Catalonia Square. Continue down the famous street La Rambla and visit the La Boqueria Market, one of the largest and most famous food markets in Europe. As you walk, always look up to marvel at the intriguing buildings.
Next stop is the charming Gothic quarter. Wander around the narrow streets and make sure not to miss the Church of Santa Maria del Pi and Barcelona Cathedral - the seat of the Archbishop of Barcelona and a lavish showcase of Gothic architecture.
Continue to the Church of Santa Maria del Mar and then end your day in Park de la Ciutadella. Admire the monumental waterfall called La Cascada and wander around to see imposing sculptures. As you leave the park, head to the wide promenade leading to the Triumphal Arch.
