Scenic Viewpoints and Peaks
This collection features the primary overlooks and geological landmarks along the Badlands Loop Road and Sage Creek Rim Road. These sites showcase the park's distinct erosion-carved spires, deep canyons, and expansive mixed-grass prairies. Key highlights include the vibrant, fossil-rich soils of the Yellow Mounds, the expansive vistas from Pinnacles Overlook, and the rugged, high-altitude terrain of Sheep Mountain Table. A Homestead Overlook
Overlook offering views of the park's transition from grassy prairies to eroded badlands formations.
B Panorama Point
High-elevation point offering a wide-angle view of the White River Valley and the park's southern stronghold.
C Yellow Mounds Overlook
Displays distinct yellow and mustard-colored sedimentary layers formed by weathered fossil soils from an ancient sea.
D Burns Basin Overlook
Named after Wilson Burns, who operated a sheep ranch in the basin below during the early 20th century.
E Window
A natural opening in the Badlands Wall accessible via a short boardwalk, framing a view of the canyon.
F Bigfoot Pass Overlook
Historical site where Chief Big Foot and his band of Miniconjou Lakota crossed the Badlands Wall in 1890.
G Pinnacles Overlook
One of the highest points in the park, offering views of the Sage Creek Wilderness and frequent bighorn sheep sightings.
H Prairie Wind Overlook
