Garachico
Garachico is a small town on the north-west coast of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands. It was the island's main port until a volcanic eruption in 1706 buried the harbour, and it was rebuilt around its rocky coast. Today it is a quiet, picturesque place with stone houses, balconies, plazas and natural seawater pools made from solidified lava.
It is a good stop on a drive around the island, or a quiet base away from the southern resorts.

When to visit
The Canaries have a mild climate all year. The north coast is greener and a little cooler than the south. Summer is the best season for the sea pools. Winters are mild, with some rain. The Fiestas de San Roque in August and the Carnival in February are the main events.
