This exquisite neo-renaissance building no longer serves as a city hall, it is still an administrative centre though. Many foreign guests visit it during various events and various free exhibitions are displayed here throughout the year.
The roots of its existence go back to the 14th century. In the 16th century, the building you can see and visit today was built but it did not look the way it does till the 19th century when it was widely reconstructed.
Hotel de Ville is a historically important place, as it was here where the French Third Republic was announced, and also where Charles de Gaulle made a famous speech on 25 August 1944 during the Liberation of Paris.

A weekly visit is available in French for individual visitors - the day and time is released on the Friday before the visit.
A group visit is available but is advised to be booked two months ahead.
Note: There are free and regular temporary exhibitions on the theme of Paris.
