One of the most popular buildings in Vienna as well as one of the most extraordinary ones, this house is a must-see for any fan of architecture.
The house was designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, a painter, sculptor, and architect well-known for his original use of colour and form and for his aversion to straight lines and standardization in architecture. He was helped by Joseph Krawina.
True to his creator's vision, Hundertwasser House has a facade decorated with bright colours, uneven floors and is covered in greenery (including trees growing from inside the house).
Take a stop at the Kunst und Café coffee house on the ground floor. Inside, you can watch a movie of the architect explaining the ideas behind the creation of his house in person, free of charge. There is also a small infoshop downstairs but, since it's an apartment building, you can't visit all the rooms.
