Celebrating its 55th birthday in 2017, this historical museum tells the story of the struggle for human rights. You can even admire the sandals of Mahatma Gandhi here.
The museum is located on Checkpoint Charlie - a line, along with a house for the border guard, which used to mark the borders between the Eastern and Western Germany during the era of the Iron Curtain. This place was the dream of many people who wanted to cross from one side of Berlin to the other, which made it the symbol of the Cold War.
Today, it shows the history of what once used to be the most secure border system. The exhibitions inside the museum also document what happened to those, who tried to escape through the border and failed.
If you want to bring some commemorative photos home from your visit, you will have to pay €5 for the possibility of using your camera. As the museum is quite popular, you may also encounter lines at the ticket counter. The best way to avoid these is to purchase your tickets online.
The Museum is open daily including festivals such as Christmas and Easter.
