This bustling square is situated in the heart of Berlin. It has always been a place related to traffic and transportation.
It gained its importance when the railway station – Potsdamer Bahnhof – was built here in 1838. Ever since the station and the square around it grew. Its traffic importance was so notable that the very first traffic light in Europe was installed here.
However, the Potsdamer Platz suffered great damage during World War II when most of it was turned to ashes. Later, the square was divided by the Berlin Wall and only after its demolition did the square undergo a large restoration.
Nowadays, it is not only an important traffic intersection but also a square with plenty of shops, restaurants and high-rise buildings.
It's located right next to the metro and train station Potsdamer Platz (metro line U2).
