This 17th century square in Berlin is truly an imposing place to visit. Three architectural gems are located there: the French Cathedral, the Neue Kirche (New Church) and the Konzerthaus.
There is a statue of Friedrich Schiller, German playwright and poet, situated in the middle of the square.
As so many important Berlin sights, even the Gendarmenmarkt was damaged during World War II. Today, however, it is fully restored and all beautiful again.
The ideal time for a visit is in the evening or at night time when the square is all lit up. If you head to Berlin during Christmas time, you should definitely visit the Christmas markets at the Gendarmenmarkt and taste mulled wine.
