This pedestrian avenue is one of the oldest and most famous streets in Berlin. Built as early as in the 16th century, it witnessed some of the most infamous moments of German history, for instance, the burning of books in 1933.
Walking the street, which leads from the Brandenburg Gate towards the Schlossbrücke bridge, you can enjoy the sight of many Berlin's famous landmarks. Its name comes from the many linden trees that line it. These were planted by Frederick William I of Prussia in the 17th century and originally numbered an entire thousand.
When visiting this boulevard, or traveling across it, it is easiest to use public transport. There are U-Bahn, S-Bahn, as well as bus stops located nearby.
